SCUBA's Very own Music Video?

We were hanging out on Wednesday, and one of the students thought up a good beat...we decided to run with his idea and create our very own music video!

We were scheduled to talk about blogging that day, and what better thing to post to a blog than our very own song?

Check it out!

Snorkling!

In the words of one of our S.C.U.B.A. students:
"Snorkling is amazing, and it's awesome, and it's epic, and it's amazing!"

We dived into Blackfoot Pool with an awesome snorkeling insstructor to see what it was all about.

As a teacher, I  thought snorkeling was going to be just putting on goggles and sticking our faces in the water...

I was definitely in for a surprise!

We put on our flippers and had to take a step off into the pool, and that was in. A whole hour of fast paced swimming and diving.

It was way super cool!!!!

Welcome to S.C.U.B.A.

Blackfoot Community Center is excited to be offering a brand new program this year-S.C.U.B.A!

We do live in Blackfoot, which is about as far away from an ocean as it is from Timbuktu. Granted, we were home to a family of sharks during the Eastern Idaho State fair. But living in Idaho, it might seem like calling a program S.C.U.B.A would be unfitting.

To B.C.C., though, S.C.U.B.A. stands for Students Conquering Un-believable Achievements!

While we may not be diving into the water all the time, we are encouraging students to dive into life and new experiences.

S.C.U.B.A. is a program made just for sixth grade and middle school students. We want to help these young people find their passions. We’re offering new challenges and activities that many people never even have the chance to participate in. But with BCC, where there is a will, there is a way.

So, we are taking this journey with local 6th, 7th, & 8th graders in a pursuit to achieve the unbelievable!
Our KICKOFF week was a blast. We invaded the sixth grade and local middle schools with post-it notes and asked students to tell us what THEY would do after school. There were NO LIMITS to how creative you could be.

Biking. Cosmetology. Making movies. Cooking. Playing soccer. Sewing. Scuba diving. Fashion design.

The students offered tons of new ideas! Over 350 students participated with more than 200 original ideas!
Our job here at BCC is to take this list and see what we can turn into a reality!

Nothing is impossible.

We are a community center...we will be reaching out over the next year throughout Blackfoot and Southeastern Idaho to find people in our community eager to share their passions. We have the chance to share a piece of our lives with students….and when we come together to do that, amazing things are sure to happen!
With hope,
